Independent Roof Survey – Medmenham Court, Near Henley-on-Thames
Project Overview
Surveyroof was instructed to carry out an independent roof survey at Medmenham Court, a large residential property near Henley-on-Thames, to investigate ongoing water ingress issues affecting a balcony area.
The area surveyed measured approximately 500 m² and included waterproofing beneath a paved balcony surface. The project had been ongoing for over three years, with the paving having been removed multiple times while the source of ingress remained unresolved.
Survey Method
Previous testing by other contractors had failed to identify the cause of the water ingress. Surveyroof attended site to undertake a structured and methodical investigation using a combination of:
- Wet testing (Earth Leakage Leak Detection)
- Physical inspection using probing techniques
- Detailed visual inspection
This multi-layered approach allowed the waterproofing system to be assessed thoroughly, ensuring that subtle and previously undetected defects could be identified.
Key Findings
The survey identified multiple defects within the waterproofing system that were contributing to the ongoing water ingress. These issues had not been detected during previous investigations.
Each defect was confirmed using electronic testing and physical inspection, providing the confidence required for remedial works to be undertaken.
Outcome for the Client
The identified defects were repaired following the survey, allowing the waterproofing system to be reinstated correctly and the balcony paving to be reinstalled with confidence.
The survey and reporting were completed within one day, including off-site preparation of the final report, bringing clarity to a long-standing issue and enabling the project to move forward after years of disruption.
This project demonstrates the value of independent roof surveys carried out using appropriate electronic testing methods, supported by physical and visual inspection, particularly where complex ingress issues have proven difficult to resolve.
